We went to a ranger talk about wolves. Yellowstone did not had wolves because people kiled them all a long time ago. Then wolves were brought from Canada to the park but the controversy and opposition in the whole country started. Yellowstone finally won a court order to bring wolves after several years of investigation. Adding that missing piece of the circle of life made many positive changes. Overpopulation of elk decreased and they became more nomadic to avoid the wolves which caused the vegetation to increase, fewer elks eating grass at rivers let beavers began to exist and other birds that live in places where there are ponds thanks to the houses built by beavers. Wolves began to remove sick and impaired animals leaving only the healthy ones. Nature is wise and if there is a missing piece there can’t be a balance.
For study purposes Yellowstone have added collars emitting radio signals to some wolves. Each morning some rangers in different places look for the radio signals to monitor and observe wolves. Well because I was very interested to see wolves we woke up at 5:45 am to go to a valley where people said to look for a yellow pickup truck with many antennas and that this ranger usually is in search of wolves. That ranger after a few hours of searching for the wolves he found them far far far away. Mark and I found many people with their super telescopes on top of a hill where that ranger was. We climbed the hill and we finally saw wolves, we could barely see them using our binoculars but almost before we left a guy let us see through his telescope and WOW I could see them clearly. I was excited of course. I saw 2 black and 2 gray wolves. You know I could have seen videos of wolves, or watch photos but the thrill of seeing them in their habitat is different, plus it was not that easy, we were lucky they were in the valley and the Rangers have found them. Mark took a photo as proof.

Fuimos a una platica que habla de que Yellowstone no tenia lobos porque fueron erradicados por gente hace mucho tiempo. Hablaron de como trajeron lobos de Canada al parque y la controversia y oposicion que se creo en estados unidos. Finalmente Yellostone gano un juicio para poder traer lobos despues de varios anios de investigacion. Al traer lobos y al agregar esa pieza que faltaba en el circulo de vida hubieron muchos cambios positivos. Habia sobrepoblacion de alces y disminuyeron, se volvieron mas nomadas para evitar a los lobos lo cual causo que la vegetacion incrementara, al haber menos alces comiendo pasto de rios, los castores empezaron a existir y otros pajaros que viven en lugares donde hay estanques gracias a las casas construidas por castores. Los lobos empezaron a eliminar a animales enfermos y con deficiencias dejando solo a los saludables. De verdad que la naturaleza es sabia y si faltan piezas no existe un balance.
Con fines de estudio en Yellostone le han puesto a algunos lobos collares que emiten seniales de radio. Cada maniana algunos guardabosques en diferentes lugares buscan las seniales y monitorean y observan a los lobos. Pues como estaba muy interesada en ver lobos, nos levantamos como a las 5:45 am para ir a un valle en donde nos dijeron que buscaramos una camioneta amarilla con muchas antenas y que ese guardabosque usualmente anda en busca de lobos. Ese guardabosque despues de algunas horas buscando encontro lobos a lo leeeejjjoooooossss. Mark y yo encontramos a mucha gente con sus super miralejos tipo telescopios arriva de un monte en donde ese guardabosque estaba. Subimos al monte y por fin vimos lobos, no se distinguian muy bien pero ya casi antes de irnos un senior nos dejo ver a traves de su tipo telescopio y WOW se veian claritos. Me emocione por supuesto vi, 2 lobos grises y 2 negros. Ya se que podria haber visto un video de lobos, o ver fotos pero la emocion de verlos en su habitat es diferente, ademas que no fue tan facil, tuvimos suerte de que estuvieran en el valle y de que el guardabosques los haya encontrado. Total que Mark tomo una foto como prueba de que los vimos.
